Lip Enhancement

Lip enhancement is available to individuals who wish to have more volume in the lips in order to create a more youthful appearance or to form a more defined lip line. This procedure aims to improve the appearance of the lips by increasing their fullness through enlargement.

Dermal filler injections can be used in the lips to create either or both of the above effects as different techniques can be used to achieve desired results. Many people have been put-off having lip fillers due to the common misconception that this procedure results in what is sometimes mockingly called the 'trout pout' effect (lips that are too big or exaggerated due to excessive quantities of collagen). However, this affect will only result as a consequence of overaggressive injections which can lead to lumpiness.

The key to great, natural lip enhancement is having a 'less is more' attitude. It is much better to start off with a small amount of filler and then gradually build it up than to have too much injected; it is easy to add more filler but far more complicated to remove it. It is also imperative that patients have a thorough consultation with their practitioner as good communication is always essential when it comes to enhancing looks in any way.

The procedure

Unlike other injectable fillers, 'Juvederm' has a small amount of local anaesthetic within the product itself; therefore, after the first injection, the rest of the procedure is less painful which makes this variety extremely popular. Numbing cream can also be used to ease pain.

The amount of injections needed varies from person to person depending on individual needs and preferences. However, on average practitioners will need to make approximately 5 insertions of the needle in order to achieve a natural and even effect. Nevertheless, patients should not be alarmed if their procedure requires more or less that 5 injections as all practitioners are work differently and may use slightly different techniques.

With this procedure results are instant but will appear slightly exaggerated for the first couple of days due to minor swelling, so patients should not be alarmed at the size of their lips as swelling will reduce and settle until lips feel and look natural.

Results can last up to a year but on average it is expected to last 6 – 8 months. After this time, top-up appointments can be made in order to maintain fuller lips.

Cost – starts from £250
