Laser Tattoo Removal

While tattoos were once considered permanent, it is now possible to remove them with treatments, fully or partially; now, people who want to remove their tattoos, can.

Tattoos of most shapes and sizes can be reduced or removed from any area of the face or body with the use of laser treatments. Patients will notice considerable fading after the first session although in most cases a course of treatment is recommended to achieve the desired reduction.

The final result will depend on how a patient’s skin reacts to the laser treatment and on the tattoo being treated i.e. how big it is and what colours have been used. The laser technology works by gradually breaking down the ink in the tattoo. After each session the body will naturally absorb the broken down ink and over a 6 to 8 week period, this process will result in the tattoo gradually fading away.

The process is almost entirely pain free and causes only some minor discomfit for the small amount of time that the laser is used for. Brighter colours and lighter colours can take longer to break down compared to black and skin tone and the quality of the tattoo may also affect the results of this procedure.

Darker skin tones have less contrast against the ink of tattoos which makes it harder for a laser to break down ink. The Quality of a tattoo can affect the results as amateur or homemade tattoos tend to be less deep. The low quality of the permanent ink used also makes these tattoos quicker and easier to remove. Professional tattooists use good quality, permanent ink and penetrate the skin slightly deeper meaning that more sessions will be required to fully remove the tattoo.
