Dermaroller
Dermaroller is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses an advanced technique of micro-medical skin needling to stimulate the skin. It causes the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally by encouraging the production of collagen and elastin in the skin which effectively makes the skin smoother, brighter, healthier and younger looking. Dermaroller has 192 micro needles which part the pores in the upper layer of the skin producing thousands of micro needle columns.
Dermaroller is suitable for men and women and can help with:
- Aged skin
- Stretch marks
- Acne scaring
- Sun damaged skin
- Pigmentation
Courses
Dermaroller treatments are an effective method of skin rejuvenation; a course of 3 treatments are recommended with a minimum of 6 weeks between each treatment. For acne scar and stretch mark treatment, patients may require 3-5 treatments with allow 6 weeks between each treatment.
One-off treatments
Dermaroller therapy is also beneficial as a one-off treatment to give skin a boost for special occasions but in order to maintain these effects; most practitioners recommended a one-off treatment is performed every 6 months.
Benefits
Unlike other more aggressive Laser treatments and Chemical Peels, there is no inconvenient downtime with this non-surgical regeneration procedure. It is suitable for use on darker skins and can be used during the summer months when other treatments are more risky due to the increased UV sensitivity they can induce.
The treatment can be used anywhere on the body, however the usual and most popular areas are:
- Acne scars
- Face
- Neck
- Décolleté
- Back of the hands
- Stretch marks on thighs and tummies
The Consultation
Before undergoing Dermaroller therapy, patients must first have a consultation within which they will be given more details about how the treatment can be used to address their individual needs. A patient's suitability for the treatment can be assessed and any questions can also be answered.
The Procedure
- Patients will be asked to sign a consent form
- Photographs of the area being treated will be taken (optional)
- Anaesthetic cream is thickly applied to the area
- Anaesthetic cream is then removed and the area is cleaned
- The roller is passed forwards and backwards over the skin until the whole area has been treated
- The area is cleaned and a moisturiser and sun block will be applied
Afterwards
Following Dermaroller treatment, skin will feel warmer and tighter and may look red in a similar way to moderate sunburn. However, patients usually recover from these side effects the same day – they normally reduce by 50% within an hour or two and only slight redness will be apparent the following day.
It is recommended that patients refrain from using makeup for 12 hours following treatment and use tepid water to cleanse the face for 48 hours, patting dry with a clean towel. A moisturiser and sun block should also be worn but these are usually supplied as part of the treatment.
The regeneration process continues over months following treatment so it can take up to 6 weeks until patients can see any results.
