Cellulite

Cellulite is a term used to describe pockets of fat which are trapped and cause skin dimpling and nodularity. This occurs mainly in women on the pelvic region, lower limbs, and abdomen. It is something that can affect women of all ages, shapes and sizes – even the slimmest of woman have it and that includes super models! However, regardless of how normal it may be, cellulite can affect body confidence and many women go to great lengths to get rid of it. There are a wide variety of products on the market today including gels, creams and even pills that claim to reduce cellulite but these solutions simply do not go deep enough to make a difference to stubborn, fatty deposits.

What causes cellulite?

There are a number of factors that can cause cellulite including:

  • Fat accumulation
  • Hormone changes from pregnancy and menopause
  • Lack of exercise
  • Weight gain
  • Loss of tone and elasticity due to ageing
  • Smoking
  • Crash diets
  • Stress
  • Poor nutrition

Treatments:

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a medical treatment that involves injecting microscopic quantities of natural extracts into problem areas - a mixture containing vitamins, amino acids, homeopathic ingredients and medications. By injecting the unwanted fat cells with this substance, Mesotherapy encourages them to break away from the connective tissues in the skin. This results in the excess fat deposits being dissolved and released through the bloodstream by the kidneys and bowels.

Not only does this treatment reduce cellulite but it also works to improve circulation and reduces fluid retention. It can be used to reduce fat in localised areas, rejuvenate skin and it can also help with lymphatic drainage.

The cost of this procedure depends on the nature of the medical condition and the number of sessions needed to achieve the desired results.

Endermologie

Endermologie is a non surgical procedure that can help reduce the appearance of cellulite in addition to boosting circulation, improving skin tone and enhancing radiance. This treatment can also help relieve minor muscular aches.

Endermologie uses a massage machine with two rollers and a gentle suction action. The rollers gently pull the skin using three directions of rotation whilst the suction action lifts and creates a wave of tissue that delicately stimulates the skin. Therefore, as cellulite is trapped toxins and water retained in fat cells beneath the skin, this massage machine works by stimulating these areas and allows the lymphatic system to drain it all away.

The procedure

Usually a course of 6 – 10 treatments is recommended, although some people feel that they need more to achieve desired effects. The results of this treatment should last for a few months and one 30 minute session per month should be enough to maintain results.

The Endermologie procedure should not be painful as the pressure of the massage should be tailored to match the comfort of each individual. The treatment requires patients to firstly change into a specialised body stocking which is worn throughout the procedure – the machine is then massaged over the top of this suit using the hand-held device.

Each session last around 35-45 minutes and 1 to 2 sessions per week are recommended.

Cost:

Prices may vary depending on which areas patients choose to have treated and where they live.
